Purton Surgery has an active Patient Participation Group (PPG) which is a member of the National Association for Patient Participation (NAPP). We aim to benefit both patients and the surgery in a number of ways, including:
• Meeting regularly, as a committee, with representatives from the surgery.
• Working with the practice to improve patient experience
• Raising funds for items that are not NHS funded.
• Arrange and organise themed evenings regarding health issues
• Producing a regular newsletter
Meeting with other Patient groups to share best practice
Through fundraising the PPG has helped to provide a new touch-screen check-in system; the chairs with arms in both Purton and Green Gable Surgeries; a dermatoscope and also a doppler. Current fundraising is for an automated door for the Purton surgery
The PPG organises Health Information evenings, usually twice a year, on a variety of health topics when we have medical staff to talk. Normally these medical staff are from Great Western Hospital. We have covered topics such as Diabetes, Arthritis, Alzheimer’s, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Ovarian cancer, Prostate cancer, Breast cancer and Sepsis.
Our Newsletters contain a range of information. These are sent to local magazines (Purton, Cricklade, Lydiard Millicent, Minety, Ashton Keynes) for inclusion and emailed Bcc {much earlier than the magazine is delivered} to patients who have supplied their email addresses.
If you would like to be kept in touch then please email us on groupforpatients@gmail.com or alternatively give your email address to a member of the surgery staff for the attention of Kai Howard, Practice Manager.
Please note: Members of the PPG have no access to patients’ medical records.
